Todoist distraction blocker: put due tasks before social apps

If you already trust Todoist with your tasks, rebuilding the same list inside a separate blocker creates another place to maintain.

Published by the maker of Nonlate. This guide explains our product, not an independent comparison.

The short answer

Nonlate supports Todoist as a task source. Connect the account, check the imported tasks and dates, then choose distracting apps and a due-work window. Eligible unfinished due tasks can trigger blocking when you open a selected app. This is deadline-aware friction, with supported breaks, rather than a guarantee that every Todoist task must be finished first.

Keep Todoist as your task reference

Continue organizing your projects and reviewing task details in Todoist. In Nonlate, check the supported task information you have imported instead of creating a second copy of every item.

Look at the date actually shown on the imported task. A planned workday, a reminder and a final deadline can mean different things in a task system; do not assume every source field maps to the same blocking condition. Test one ordinary dated task before relying on the connection for important work.

Build the smallest useful connected setup

Follow Nonlate’s Todoist sign-in and authorization prompts.

  1. Refresh Nonlate and compare a supported task’s title, date and unfinished status with Todoist.
  2. Choose a realistic due-work window. A long backlog should not automatically turn into an all-day wall unless those tasks meet your chosen rules.
  3. Select a few distracting apps, complete the platform permission steps and keep essential communication and work tools accessible.
  4. Plan a manageable next action in Planner and Schedule. Picking when to work does not move the task’s due date.

A client draft before an evening deadline

Suppose a draft appears in Nonlate as unfinished and due at 6 p.m. Reserve time to write earlier in the day. Once the task falls inside your chosen due window, opening a selected social app can bring up the blocker and return the deadline to your attention.

Complete the actual work and check its status in your source workflow. Refresh Nonlate to confirm the updated imported state. Completing this draft removes one blocking reason, but another qualifying unfinished task can still trigger blocking. A calendar meeting alone never does.

When an update or completion seems stuck

First compare both apps, refresh the connection and check account access and connectivity. Do not create duplicate tasks just to fix a delayed update. Sync timing depends on the provider, plan, permissions and the device’s background limits; an external change is not guaranteed to appear immediately.

On iPhone, blocking uses Screen Time shields. Android uses its required Accessibility permission and can show more task detail. An active timed break, a revoked permission or a task outside the due window can explain why a distraction opens. Optional Focus Lock changes break access; it does not make the system tamper-proof.

Separate free blocking from connected sync

Free includes manual tasks and core blocking for up to three distracting apps.

The optional 30-day source trial allows one external source at a time, syncing on open or refresh, without an automatic charge. After it ends, syncing pauses unless an eligible paid plan provides source access; imported tasks remain available for local completion and blocking. Plus supports background sync when available, while Pro adds Live Sync for supported integrations within limits. Check current plans and localized store terms before subscribing. The source trial starts with the first successful connection.

Common questions

Does Todoist itself need to block my phone?

No. Todoist holds your task workflow; Nonlate provides its own supported app blocking after the source is connected and the necessary device permissions are granted.

Do I have to retype every task?

No. Use the supported imported tasks and check them against the source. Add manual tasks only when you intentionally need separate work in Nonlate.

Will finishing one task unlock all my apps?

Not necessarily. Other eligible unfinished tasks may remain, and blocking also depends on your settings, platform permissions and any active timed break.
